Definition of SVHC


A SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) is a chemical substance identified as presenting major risks to human health and/or the environment. Under the REACH regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals), a substance is classified as SVHC if it presents at least one of the following characteristics:
  • CMR: Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or toxic for Reproduction (category 1A or 1B).
  • PBT: Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic. ‍
  • vPvB: Very Persistent and Very Bioaccumulative.
  • Substances presenting an equivalent level of risk, such as endocrine disruptors
