There are 4 roles in the supply chain: importer, manufacturer, downstream user, and distributor. Here are the definitions of each of these roles:
Importer: a legal entity based in Europe responsible for importing a substance into Europe.
Manufacturer: a legal entity based in Europe responsible for manufacturing a substance in Europe.
Downstream User: a legal entity based in Europe, which purchases products in Europe and uses these products in its industrial or professional activities.
Distributor: a legal entity based in Europe, which purchases a substance or mixture in Europe and places these substances or mixtures on the market.
As an importer of finished products, I am considered, under REACH, as the importer of each substance in the finished product. I must:
- Calculate the tonnage of each substance in the product
- Identify substances > 1t/year
- Register substances if they are subject to REACH (if necessary)
