A Cosmetic Notification Form is used to notify Health Canada within 10 days of the first sale of a cosmetic in Canada. Failing to notify Health Canada can result in a product being removed from sale or being denied entry into Canada. The CNF does not constitute approval of the product or agreement of its classification by Health Canada. Ultimately, manufacturers and importers are responsible for ensuring that their cosmetics meet the requirements of the Cosmetic Regulations within the Food and Drugs Act. A complete CNF simply provides Health Canada with specific product details, including contact information, cosmetic function, and ingredients. Any changes that affect the information on a CNF must be submitted in an amendment.
