4 new substances were added to the substances of very high concern (or SVHC) list in June 2020. This addition brings the number of substances candidate for authorisation to 209. Among these substances, 3 are toxic for reproduction and the fourth is an endocrine disruptor.

(Article 57(f) – human health) Cosmetics, personal care products and pharmaceuticals
The list of substances candidate for authorisation (or SVHC list) registers all the substances which are meant to be banned in Europe. This list is updated twice a year, usually in January and June, and several substances are added to it. These substances are included on the basis of the severe danger they represent for the environment or human health.
The inclusion of these substances is susceptible to have an impact on companies, since they are required to disclose the presence of SVHCs when they are contained at more than 0.1% weight/weight in the articles they provide.
Additionally, starting in January 2021 companies will be required to notify ECHA’s SCIP database which registers substances of very high concern contained in articles sold in the European Union.
