The idea of EUCLEF emerged from a request from the VCI, the German Chemical Industry Association to the European Commission. This request, which dates back to 2015, was about the creation of a tool allowing companies to navigate through the various legal texts and safety information applying to a substance by entering its name.
Following this, ECHA and the European Commission started to work on this project. The VCI expressed its will to see companies administrative burden reduced, in particular for small and medium-sized companies. The VCI also wants to see the addition of national provisions specific to each Member State such as exposure limits or even environmental emission limit values.
